The Best of Both Worlds

imageIs there anything more Australian than “Shrimps on the Barbie”? Is there anything more American than McDonalds? We certainly didn’t wake-up this morning planning to contemplate the merits of which foods remind us of which country. In going about our day however, we realised just how different our morning was to our afternoon.

The Trip Back to Green Bay

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Alot of people have told us how inspiring they find this trip and that talking to us makes them want to go out and do something crazy for themselves. Let me tell you, today was crazy. If I was speaking this post as opposed to writing it, I would have pronounced crazy a little something like K-RAZY cause that’d be the best way to emphasise it. In fact, to make sure my expression was really being understood, it would have been delivered after a big, long, deep breath, a shake of my head and a wry smile of disbelief.

New York in 2 Half Days

imageWho would have thought that a day could make such a difference when coming to terms with a single city is concerned? OK. Perhaps that’s a silly question. This is New York City after all. I mean let’s face it. Is New York even considered a single city these days or is each “borough” classed as a city in itself?

Week 2 @ Giants

Sunday, September 16, 2007

imageWe had a reasonably low key morning by comparison to our experience last week. Thanks to the hour time difference between Green Bay and New Jersey we were thrown out of whack just enough to see us in bed at 8:00 still. There was no rush, we had time for breakfast and leaving was as calm as we hope it may be for the rest of the games I/we attend.

It was nice to see so many Packers fans here this morning. It’s one thing to be at home amongst a town that lives and breathes the same team you do. But being on the road with those fans that are lucky enough to attend makes you realise that with the Packers at least, there are fans absolutely everywhere. I learned this through almost every conversation I had today. Fans from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, North and South Carolina, Maryland even Philly. Some were transplanted from Wisconsin to these parts of the country. Others were generational. You know, support the Packers like your Mother and Father or don’t bother supporting the NFL at all. Some were Packers fans just because they wanted to be.

New York New York

imageStart sprea-den the neeeeeeews. We have officially arrived in the world’s most expensive (insert expletive here) city. Despite my eagerness to fast forward to this evening, let’s start from the top so as we don’t get too lost on the way through the day. Last night I could barely keep my eyes open. Seems the week of returning emails, writing stories and trying to live a reasonably normal life had finally caught up with me. From about 9pm onwards I was asleep at the wheel. This didn’t bode well for what was going to be a big day today.
