2011 Wk 5 @ Atlanta

image So it’s taken me a little while to get into the swing of things this year. That’s not to say that I haven’t been following every move the Packers have made, I’ve just struggled to find the time to write about it, that’s all. You know what it’s like. At some points you seem to have all of the time in the world. At others, you’re walking in the door at 930pm and eating alone ‘cause everybody else in the house is already asleep.

As such, I must have started and restarted this post at least a dozen times for me to get to the point that you’re actuallty here and able to read it. Of course, as is always the case, my intention is to post every week; then, as life would have it, I tend to watch the game, head straight to work and fall immediately into the week; as I should (hello boss if you’re reading this). Either that or I DVR it whilst I work, watch it over the next couple of days (’cause I’ve already followed the score and highlights online) and then, like before, fall immediately into the week. Either way, good intentions are better than none, right?

I’ll just keep telling myself that!

In fact, it’s fairly easy to pinpoint my schedule of Packer Games. If it’s a Noon/1pm kick-off in the US, I get to watch it live in the comfort of our little home. Anything later than that, from the 315pm game onward, then it’s is a given that I’ll miss it. By the time 315pm Central rolls around for you, it’s 815am Monday morning here and I’m well on my way to work. I certainly keep in touch with the game where I can but it’s score updates only. I don’t get to watch the game till 815pm, or thereabouts, that night.

Taking all of that into account, this was indeed one of those games. Primetime Sunday night equals lunchtime Monday for me so by the time kickoff rolled around, I found myself smack in the middle of an Account Plan review with very little time after that to jump onto a national video conference. In between I did manage to check the scores but I stopped once Atlanta got to 14-0 and I realized that they had taken a virtual mortgage out on possession of the ball.

By the time I logged on again it was deep into the second half and we’d put on 25 unanswered points to win, 25-14. Amazing! Once I had the chance to get home, kiss the family goodnight and get some dinner into me, I jumped on the sofa and indulged in what was an absolute clinic by the Packer offense and our Air NFL player of the week, Aaron Rodgers.

So far as highlights or take-outs from this game for me? I’m concerned about Chad Clifton but hoping it’s nothing serious. And I’m ecstatic about everything else. I know we started slow but the way we played the second half really did make up for it. As far as undefeated, defending champion, win at all costs football games go, you can’t ask for much more than that. Particularly against a team that many said are one of only a few that could be there at the end to take our shot at repeating away from us.

All in all I thought it was a superb performance and one that we could all be very proud of.

image In a little non-Packer related news, I was sad to see the passing of Al Davis yesterday too. I must be honest and say I knew very little of the man outside of what I think most NFL fans would know by simple association. I have to say though that I am more intrigued than ever to learn about him after a lot of what I read with regards to his influence over the NFL in the last 24 hours. I know the stories are mixed but still, he was a figure that polarized the entire league, and its fan base, for fifty odd years. Love him or dislike him, there’s an amazing NFL story in this and I know, as time permits, I’ll make an effort to understand just what Al Davis did in fact do for the League and the way that it turned out to be.
