Green and Gold

imageHave you ever had that feeling, when you open up a file on your pc and you can’t find what you’re looking for, that something has gone horribly wrong? Well, that happened to me this morning. For hours last night I wrote about the game on Sunday, hoping to have it loaded first thing this morning. I let my mind run free, typing everything that I wanted to and more. I wrote 4 pages, most from the heart, about the emotion of what I had experienced on game day and the feelings I had had since the final whistle blew.

Kelly was up before I was and as is usually the case, she checked the email to see if anything had come in from home. When the computer wasn’t responding she asked me what to do. It was 630am and I was asleep on the recliner next to our lounge. In my drowsy state I told her to press the power button and see what happens. What happened was the computer restarted itself without saving any of the changes that hadn’t already been saved.

I was beside myself. You know the feeling when you put everything you’ve got into something only to see it disappear in front of your eyes. That was how I felt.  I call this “annoying computer story number 1”.

imageRealising I was lucky to have lost 4 pages and not every single thing we had written, filmed or captured whilst being here I came to terms with the loss and decided to work on my video instead. (Note I’m smiling in the photo? By the way, ignore the headband, that’s the “my hair is annoying me because I haven’t showered yet” look)

imageI had recently found the world’s longest video on You Tube. It goes for 9 and a half hours. There are a ton of videos in fact that go well longer than the 10 minute limit I thought was in place. This game, being for the NFC Championship, I thought was entitled to as long a video as I could make so I set about doing so. 3 hours later I had a 15 minute masterpiece. 45 minutes later it was a published movie. Another 45 minutes and it was loaded onto You Tube. 30 minutes or so after that I was notified that my video was rejected due to it being longer than 10 minutes. At this point I was about ready to throw the computer through our ice covered window and into the snow, never to be seen again.

This was “annoying computer story number 2”.

imageI spent the next 2 hours editing 5 minutes out of the clip, republishing and reloading it. Somebody was testing me today. Thankfully, I managed to get through it, albeit some 8 hours later with a loaded video, ready for all to see. I was still down 4 pages of text down but at least one hurdle had been jumped.

In case you were wondering why the updates took a little while this week, that’s the reason. Frustrating huh?

That was pretty much my day. Kel kept the boys entertained as you can see in the pics and then took them out to play at the mall so they could let their little minds run free. By the time they were back it was in the bath for them.

imageThe one fast food place we haven’t tried since being here was Arby’s. Regular followers of our site will know that, as boring as it might seem to some, we are slowly attempting to try all of the different take away “establishments” before we head home and miss out on the chance. Arby’s was good. Not quite sure on the burgers, I’ll reserve judgement until I try another but the curly fries and popcorn chicken were a total hit. Serioulsy, the popcorn chicken was awesome. My understanding was that KFC invented the whole “popcorn” chicken phenomenon. Let me tell you, they may have had the idea but Arby’s have come in and done it 10 times better. More chicken, less fry. Very tasy indeed.

imageAfter dinner I was off to Champions to appear on the Green and Gold show with Johnnie Gray (left and first photo above). I was the “featured guest” which sat kind of funny with me. I was afraid that with the “please welcome our special guest” announcement the audience would be looking for a 6 foot 5, 280 pound footballer to walk through the door. Thankfully they weren’t and the night went very well. It was great to talk to so many different people at once about what we’ve done and why we decided to do it. Thanks Ellen and Johnnie, I had alot of fun. If you’re in Green Bay and you’d like to see it’s on 1111 “Wisconsin on Demand”.

I came home to an apartment that was a little less full than when I had left. Kelly has started packing a little now in anticipation for our flight next week. Stay tuned for an update on our plans for leaving, our book, this site and the frequency of updates.

If you like Culver’s ice cream, then you’ll like Hansens’ even better!!  It’s the good old fashioned dairy product.  YUM!! Always a BIG hit with my granddaughters when they visit.

Wayne,

I’m one of the numerous unfortunates to be living outside of the Green Bay area.  is there a way for you to post a montage of your appearances online or at least the one detailed here.  Sounds like it’d give a good wrap on your opinion of the past season.

Wayne, my husband Dick and I have really enjoyed your post, everyone of them.  You have such a happy family and cute boys.  I hope you will keep a post after you get home to keep us updated on how you are all doing.  Have a safe trip home, we wish you the best.  I’m glad you got to see such an exciting Packer football season, to bad it didn’t include the Super Bowl, but it was a fun time.

Hi Wayne this is Dan from Milwaukee. I was one of the many sad people on Sunday night. I really hope you enjoyed your stay in Wisconsin, a place where I’ve lived my whole life. I know your trip and your story has inspired a lot of people, because its inspired me.  You have a lot going for you and a great family. I wish you and your family the best in the future and hope you all have a safe trip back. I hope you are able to make it back to Wisconsin someday.

Good luck and Go Packers.

I have really enjoyed your story! Very glad you are enjoying all of what Wisconsin has to offer. Have you been to Seroogy’s the chocolate shop yet in De Pere? I am hoping someone has told you about it but if not you must make a stop to enjoy all the treats.

If you love Culver’s you have to try Cold Stone Creamery! I know there is one in the mall in Appleton. Our whole family loves it. It is all homemade ice cream! I love banana ice cream with graham crackers, carmel & pecans. You will have to try it! Jennifer

Your whole “fast food expeditions” the whole subdivision? Mallification is one of the major things that’s wrong with the US. I could(can) never understand why you Australians (and others) view franchises and primetime pop culture as “American culture” (and thus accusations of our “cultural imperialism”) how many Americans see Adidas and Aldis as anything more than a discount grocery store and a athletic maker? How many people see Boy George and Coupling as British culture…its pop culture from Britton?
