Hair Cut Time

imageHas this week been hectic or what? I’m beginning to think that a weekly blog would have been a better idea than a daily one. OK, that’s not true. With the way things have transpired this week though we’ve been left with little time to do anything, much less keep a regular routine.

That was until today. Today it was head down and bum up as I worked all day and night in an effort to catch up.

The two biggest things on the agenda today were to donate alot of what we have collected over the last 5 months to charity and to get haircuts for the boys. Yes, for all of those that laughed, that means no more bobby pins for Ben and no more pebbles styled pony tails for Luc.

As much as I hate to talk about it, our plans for going home are progressing slowly as the days go by. We’ve accumulated some serious toys and clothes since being here so it was with some relief that Kelly was able to donate some of it this morning. We arrived in the US with 4 x 50lb suitcases. We are allowed to take home 6 x 50lb suitcases. It’s too bad we can’t take it all with us but I’m not sure that we’ll need a size 3 snow suit in a year’s time anyway.

imagePerhaps the most difficult thing in coming here was having to set up a child friendly home knowing full well we had just left one behind. Toys, games, activities and winter clothes were the biggest thing we spent our money on. These boys have more toys than they’ll ever need waiting for them at home and with the Christmas presents that Santa left there, they won’t miss a thing that we don’t bring back with us.

With respect to clothing, it’s summer there right now and by the time winter rolls around they won’t fit into anything we have here anyway. (Oh yeah, and the Sydney winter doesn’t quite need the sort of extreme clothing that the Wisconsin winter needs so I think we’ll be alright).

The beauty of purchasing things that we knew we couldn’t take home though was that at some point (today as it turns out) a family who needed them more than we did would get them. That was a good feeling. We kept most of the toys for now but come a few weeks time there’ll be some very happy little boys and girls out there somewhere.

Next item for Kelly, whilst I was still typing away, was to get the boys hair done. Whilst she took them out separately I literally sat here, in the position I am now, for the best part of 14 hours.

imageBen loves having his hair cut; he knows it makes him look extra handsome. His posing for photos has become extra good since having it done as you can see above. Luc on the other hand is like a worm trying to avoid the hook. It’s incredible. If ever you want to see a real life bobblehead in action, Luc at the hairdressers will not disappoint. As you can see by this pic (the best of about 15) we didn’t even bother with the back ‘cause he was going totally bonkers.

Apart from speaking with the Associated Press about the Packers chance this weekend and what it means for us, the rest of the afternoon and evening was very low key. I even got to take a break and watch a little TV with a cup of hot chocolate. Thank goodness for the DVR.

The boys are very handsome with their new cuts.It is sad to hear you talk about going home but I’m sure no matter how sad it is you will be glad to get back to your families. It has been an incredible journey for you and when the Packers win the super bowl that will be just the icing on the cake. God bless & keep you as you continue your journey.

The boys look adorable (but they always do).
Once you’re back in the land down under, do plan on still keeping up your blog?  I, as well as all of your readers, I’m sure, would really like to keep track of you and the family once you get “back home”.

I agree with Randi’s comments.  I really wish you and your family well.  You have been our Packer’s good luck charm this year.  I hope you have found your trip to be all and more then you expected.  God Bless you!

Wayne .. your talk of coming back to OZ has seen a temporary end to our near record stretch of temps over 30C down here on the Murray and (are you sitting down) some rain that fell steadily all day and night. Had to rely on Google to work out what the heck it was that was falling from the sky.  Oh joy ... we need literally weeks of this stuff to end the drought but any is better than nothing.

Looks like from the above posts that the US fan-base will be demanding more from you when you get back. Surely that book is looming ...

take care .. and hope “the Streak’ lasts two more games
