Is Anybody Out There?

Because there is certainly somebody right here!!! I know, I know, it’s been a while. In fact, I’m almost certain that I’m writing this to a grand audience of zero so give me a yell if you are in fact there!

I’ve received a number of emails recently wanting to know where the heck we are and what the heck we’re up to. Let me tell you, it’s been a topsy turvy return. Thank you Bernie Madoff for turning the world economy upside the way you did. Even down here in little ol’ Sydney Australia we’re still feeling the effects of big business gone wrong. Anyway, I don’t want to get too far into what has happened since my last post almost a year ago but all sorts of things have happened, some good, some bad. The 4 of us all have our health and our smiles though and that’s all that anyone can ask for. The sun is shining, the beach is beautiful, work is totally full-on and our boys are more infectious now than they ever have been.

There have been a number of times I’ve wanted to find the time to get back online and start posting again but boy, if you don’t do it when you’re thinking it, the opportunity seems to pass you by.

In saying that though, I thought what better time to at least get back on track with a quick hello than right now. Post MNF where Aaron and our Pack went out to visit Brett and his Vikings. I, like alot of people I’m sure, am a little torn by the situation. I love Brett, think he’s a great guy and an awesome Quarterback. I would have loved for him to stay a Packer. At the same time I didn’t want to lose Aaron though. I think previous to the 2008 season, had Brett have come back we’d have lost Aaron in a trade to somewhere that he might have started. That would have been a terrible waste this year had Brett have not come back for another shot in 2009. I truly believe Aaron is going to be a cracker at QB. That doesn’t mean I wanted Brett to leave ‘cause I didn’t want Aaron to leave either. Not with what he learned from holding Brett’s clipboard especially. Again, I’m not sure which decision is the right one but I’m certainly not going to diss either party for what happened. Keep Brett for one more year and perhaps lose Aaron for the next 10? Trade Brett and watch Aaron not do as well? Tough call. All I will say is I’m glad I didn’t have to make it!

On the game tonight...WOW! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. So Brett won, against all 32 teams now no less. I remember being in Kansas when he beat the Chiefs to become only the third player to have beaten 31, equalling Tom Brady and Peyton Manning who did so only the week before. I’m genuinely happy for him. Sure, that means we lost tonight, but Aaron threw for 385 yards behind a weakened O-Line that allowed for 7 sacks. Not great for us this week but what a classy guy we have in him as he continues to mature. Steve Young lost the first time he played Joe Montana in Kansas. How did that work out for the 49ers? Three Superbowl’s I believe, not a bad feat right? All in all I’m happy either way. You win some, you lose some. I don’t think we’ll lose to many though once all of this blows over.

Also, it was great to see DD equal Sterling Sharpe’s record for most catches as a Packer. SS was a big hero of mine with his Don Majkowski connection in through 89/90. In fact the two of them featured in one of my major artworks in Year 10 at High School. DD though, what a great smile, I mean athlete. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I remember whilst we there commenting that at some point DD will be the greatest Packer reciever of all time. And here we are, 2 weeks away from seeing it!

I’ll close there. In fact, this post has been alot longer than I thought it would be. Apologies if my fence sitting re: the QB situation beat around the bush a little. I genuinely feel for both guys, I really do. With all of the angst over the last 18 months between both parties though, the fans and the all of the media I can honestly say I don’t think there are any winners. I do wish them both the best though.

Oh, and a deep run into January for the Packers of course.

Hoping you’re all well and beginning to prepare heartily for the winter ahead. We’re certainly looking forward to summer here.

Welcome back. Good things come to those who wait. I’m sure there are a few of us left. Enjoyed your comments on the game & Favre. It’s still Go Packers & good luck to Favre.

Thanks Carol, couldn’t agree more!

I thought last night’s game might have drawn something from you.  Hopefully it won’t be another year between posts.

****************************************
It won’t be another year I can assure you! There were other forces at play 12 months ago I’m sorry to say! And yes, if I was going to start again, what better time!!!

Wayne, I am so glad to hear you and yours are alive and well.  I think the problem with you living down there in Aussie land, no one can knock on your door to see how you are and then let everybody else know.

As for the game, I’m depressed.  We are in desparate need for offensive linemen.

****************************************
Very true. Mind you, as far away as we are it sure is nice to be home in this warm weather! As for the O-Line, man, glad I’m not A-Rod!

Great Post Wayne.  Puts many things in there proper perspective.  The Packers orginization made the right call with A-rod.  A class act and great QB.  But TT better improve the O-line and D-line, or he will be out as GM after the season.

****************************************
I agree Jeremy. I still look at him though and think he’s so California!!! Hope he handles the weather now that he’s playing and not wearing a warm jacket every week.

Good to hear you and yours are well.  I’m sure it was quite difficult getting back on your feet again after a year + away, and the economy in such a lousy place.
As for the game, well Brett said he was going to stick it TT and he did.  Frankly, if TT doesn’t improve the lines, the org. should stick it to him.  Aaron has the makings of being a very good QB, but not without protection.  Maybe the O-coordinator needs to be replaced too.
Rick and I will be in your lovely country in Feb/Mar.  Will be visiting some friends in Melbourne and then we (4 of us) will be renting an apt. on the Sunshine Coast.  Can hardly wait.  Only thing we dread is the flight.  Bloody long!!

****************************************
G’day Jan. If I knew then what I know now I’m sure things would have been very different!!!

The game, yeah, Brett sure did do what Brett does best. And he did it without AP too. I think the biggest thing to come out of it was what alot of people have been saying about the Vikings. Now, shutting down AP isn’t a guarenteed win. You’ve got a great QB to worry about also. Sure makes the NFC North championship a much tougher proposition.

As for coming down here, so glad to hear it! You’re skipping Sydney though? South to Melbourne, North to the Sunshine Coast, no time for the Harbour Bridge and Opera house in the middle???

G’day Cobber ... welcome back on deck. Thought it might take a while before the dust had settled.

While I’m still waiting to see a replay of the Vikings game it would seem from written reports that we have some real issues with the Offense (not to mention the defensive situation) that means this will be another long season. Oh well ... that’s footy. It was however a match result I expected… and indeed I reckon it was a bit of a sad day for those of us have some (probably misplaced in this day and age of big business) sentiment for team loyalties. No one is bigger than a team, not even Brett. If the man sheds tears and tells the whole world he’s retired then in my books he’s retired. Time to move on ....

Anyway welcome back ... hope the billy lids are well

****************************************
Yeah, the dust is yet to settle but I’m hoping it does shortly. It’s been a very on and off couple of years.

Team loyalties lie both ways. Like I said, would have loved Brett to stay but didn’t want to lose AR either. Whatever happened happened I guess. Let’s hope it works out for the best.

Boys are great thanks,

Wayne

Hi Peter, I did, still working on it every now and then at least. Still have some work to do but I’ll have it in hard-cover some day! Whether I sell 1 or 1 million by hook or by crook it’ll be done.

Hey Guy
We visited Aus/NZ, via a cruise from Sydney about 5 yrs ago.  So been there and done that.  But I must say, I LOVED Sydney!!  What a city with a lot of energy and unusual history. Do you think we’ll like Melbourne as much??!!

I accidentally click on “The Once in a Lifetime Fan” bookmark and what do I see?  A post from Wayne!  So glad to hear you are doing well.  I’ll try to check back more often now since we all know you are still alive.  LOL!  Packers need a lot of work for sure.  Did you see the sloppy play against the Lions last weekend?

Wayne - It was great to read your update and to hear that all is well with you and your family.

Your comments about Aaron are spot on - he is a fine quarterback and has had an opportunity to finally shine having come out from the shadows of Brett.  I must say that there are a great deal of Packers fans that are a bit bitter about the whole situation and how it transpired...not to mention Brett being dressed in purple.  I will be at the game on Sunday at Lambeau vs. the Vikings (or Viqueens as I call them) and am interested to hear how the crowd will react when he comes out onto the field.

Those of us that have followed your journey (and folks like me that were lucky enough to spend time with you in Green Bay) are looking forward to more posts and some day reading that wonderful book!

Take care.  Hello to the family for me!

Things are heating up at the Packer Pro Shop here at Lambeau for the upcoming game this week-end. Outsiders compare it almost to a Super Bowl...I think a bit exagerated possibly on that one. The NFL Filming is in town already and are searching everywhere for anything to do with Brett...Should be a very interesting take for that one. Go Pack Go...Aaron is the QB now and I wish him well......
