Our Off Season

imageThe time has officially come I’m sorry to say. Time to hang up the boots, take a break and a well earned rest after what has been a hectic 9 month campaign. (Don’t you love the photo from week 1?) I feel like I’ve got nothing left to give. Emotionally, physically and mentally I’m spent. It’s not about the writing, I love the writing, you all know that. It’s what happens in between the writing that makes it tough. The thoughts…(pause)…, the mental training and everything that…(pause)…goes along with it. If it weren’t for the pre-season I could certainly see myself going around again…….

Ok, do you get the picture yet? Me trying to do my own little retirement speech? It wasn’t really that funny was it?

So back to the point, all Brett Favre impersonations behind. This’ll be my 2nd last post for a little while. The final one will come next Monday morning Green Bay time. Life is beginning to take hold of me again and I’ve got to say that with all the distractions, writing each week is becoming more and more difficult. I hate to say it’s time to take a breather.

I came to that conclusion last night as I was flicking through our pictures from arriving, to game days to the four of us together to coming back home again. It kind of left me feeling a little lost for words to be honest. So many experiences, so many ups and downs, so many great friends made along the way, yet all I can muster now is the occasional post on working, weather and what we are trying to do with our lives.

At the moment my job is the big one of course. I find myself so far into the learning of it all that my normal, past midnight bed times have turned into bed times a lot earlier than that. Even when I am up late I find I’m so tired that watching the cricket is about all I can do before falling asleep where I lay. (Those Indians think they’ve got it good over there right now, they should get to a Packers game to live the atmosphere of a real sporting venue.)

Time normally reserved for writing has turned into time now reserved for reading as I learn a whole new structure, system and industry in a matter of just a few weeks.

The book, whilst certainly full of shape has taken a back seat over the last few weeks too and it’s unfortunate that, given a decision is inevitable, I will have to dedicate my time to that rather than this.

We also have some 200 emails still to respond to as my target of having them done by May failed miserably. It is so important to me that we respond to every single one individually and again, time reserved for updating the website really is the perfect time to complete that task as soon as possible.

Add to all of that the fact that I want to make some changes to the site for the 2008/9 season and I’ve got a lot of things to go on with. I plan on making a come back in the first week of September as I really do enjoy keeping this diary and interacting with everyone that stops to say hi. I’ve got a few ideas as to how I can make things a little different this time around, seeing as I’ll be here not there so some time to take care of that is needed aswell. Plus, despite my best intentions I still haven’t formally compiled your addresses into an emailable format yet. So much to do so little time……

On the personal front, house hunting has slowly found it’s way onto the agenda. Not this month but maybe next. Who would have thought that this excursion would have gone a full 12 months ‘cause by the end of June we’ll be at the anniversary point of moving out of the home we sold to start all of this.

Next week, I’ll post answers to questions that have been asked of us that we may have already answered but will do so again with our “reflective” caps on. Things like, our favourite part of the trip, favourite part of Wisconsin, greatest triumphs and biggest regrets.

The fact that this is being posted two days later than I said it would be is indication enough that the time has come to take a break. I won’t say any big farewells or thankyou’s this week ‘cause there’s one more post to come. If you want to ask something in particular please do so in the comments or via email and we’ll be sure to add it to the list.

Until then it’s back to our weekly videos, iPod highlights and photographs. The memories we have created are simply amazing. Re-living via the trips to Kansa City, Dallas and Denver have been unreal.

Talk to you again on Monday,

Hi,
I have enjoyed your story of your trip to Green Bay.  I hope that your new job works out well.  I have been a Packer fan since the 50’s.  I have attended a fews games during that time.  I was at the Ice Bowl.  I still have the program and ticket stub from that event.

I have enjoyed reading your story - what an experience you have had and having the courage to do this and follow your dream is very commendable.  Not many people could have done what you did - CONGRATUALTIONS to you and your family!!!

Good for you Wayne, you deserve a break. All we had to do is sit back and wait for your blogs and then respond with a short comment. You had all the heavy work. It would be nice to have one last picture of you & the family and then in Sept. we can see how the boys have grown etc.Take care of yourself and the family and I am looking forward to seeing your new blog in Sept. God Bless.

A new job, a new home, getting resettled after a trip here for months..yes you need a break! Enjoy any free time you have with your wife and boys. They are most important in your life. Life can become so hectic that the most important things sometimes are missed. I know. I am a grandmother also a great-grandmother and know how quickly the little ones grow up!Take care of one another and the both of you watch over your precious boys.

(Another Brad here).
Good deal on the new job, glad it’s going well and that your domestic situation is rolling along swimmingly, and further that the fam’ is hale, whole and happy, of course.
Cool about the hiatus as there’s nothing much to report or discuss during off-season anyway, especially after the draft. Everybody examines the picks, analyzes and critiques (informed experts that we all are), then things go quiet again, at least up ‘til camp begins.
Will look for ya at the beginning of the season.
Be well,
Brad

Have enjoyed and so looked forward each week to your blogs.  But now realize that when you were here, it was much simpler to just work on the blogs.  With work, family and life in general now being in the forefront, the blog does need to rightfully take a backseat.  Good Luck on the househunting and enjoy the offseason.
