Paperwork - The Final Frontier

Do you ever get the feeling that you’ve forgotten something? Or when faced with being away for so long that you are GOING to forget something? Or, for that matter, based on the sheer magnitude of whatever it is you are about to undertake, a whole lot of something’s?
I went through all of our outstanding paperwork today and that isn’t to say that any of it was actually outstanding. To be quite honest in fact, it was more sub-par than outstanding. Anyway, you know the sort of paperwork I’m talking about. Bills, Invoices, Receipts, Bills, Statements and all that sort of stuff.
Faced with the reality of not seeing a piece of mail for some 5 or 6 months you very quickly go from thinking “how fantastic” to “what if I’ve forgotten something?” Will I still have a credit rating when I get back? Will we able to buy a new house, will I still have a P.O.Box, will my pay TV and mobile phone operators still sell me their services? Am I going to leave the iron on because of everything else I have to worry about?
So a good 6 or so hours later I emerge from having spoken with the recorded message services of every major corporation in this country hoping that my fears have been allayed and that everything I set out to do has been done. I guess we’ll wait and see........
Side note:
Speaking of large corporations, why do all of their phone answering services sound the same? Seriously, when you speak to as many of them in one day as I have today you realise that they are all the same. This lead me down the path of I can’t count how many conspiracy theories but boy, after a while you do begin to wonder.
Most notable quote of the day:
Following the all too familiar “Your call is important to us” line came this doozy from a phone company today. “Your call will be answered in less than.......20 minutes” The dots signify the pre-recorded message pausing to allow a second pre-recorded message to fill in the gap. 20 minutes huh? Perhaps my call was only “kind-of” important today or maybe “somewhat” important. They should just replace it with “Your call (isn’t very) important to us (at all) and be done with it. I’d rather in your face honesty than ironic niceties.
