Well isn’t LA different to Green Bay?
Kelly and I had planned to use our stopover as a way of acclimatising ourselves to the warm weather and the big city life before we got back to our own warm weather and big city life. So far the experience has been a big slap in the face.
I forgot how much traffic there is in this part of the world, how fast everybody moves, how fancy all of the suits look and how tall all of the buildings are. It was like the acclimatisation period never existed as we came to terms with everything here, not even thinking about everything there in the next few days.
So far as our day today – this morning we had brunch (so LA isn’t it) with our friends Andrea and Willie - the picture is us at the greocery store beforehand. That was cool ‘cause they have two little ones for the boys to play with. Plus the weather was great, they have a courtyard to ride bikes around and they’re not far from our hotel.
We were back in the early afternoon, just in time for me to head downstairs to see the Superbowl. I wasn’t really rooting for either team to be honest. I was happy for the Patriots to win because they have easily been the superior team all season. I was equally happy for the Giants to win ‘cause they have easily been the superior team over the last 4 weeks.
In the end, watching Eli evade the pass rush and heave that ball to David Tyree with 90 seconds to go was awesome. C’mon, even as Packers fans you have to agree, that was a great play. The 30 odd strong crowd here went totally nuts and rightfully so.
We had a quiet night after that, making sure the boys weren’t too worked up before our flight on Tuesday.
On a side note, having never seen the big game with all of the ads included (our Australian coverage cuts to guys in the studio talking about the game) I have to say the ads weren’t everything I expected. Some were great, some were just plain average. My favourite came in the 4th quarter. It was a baby, in front of his computer selling a stock trading account known as E*Trade. Not the one where he throws up, the other one, where he comments on hiring a clown with his profits and quotes “I underestimated the creepiness”. Ha, so true!

Having been to LA a few times to visit family, I can’t understand what the attraction to the place is. I’d much rather do Chicago or NYC. Be that as it may… The game was awesome..mainly cuz the Giants won. After all they were the underdogs and for some reason, they then become the fan favorite. I can say that I think most of GB was rootin’ for the Giants. Soemthing about he robotic cociness of the “superior” Pats that didn’t rub well. The better/best team won!!
Hope your flight back to Sydney was uneventful and I’m sure you had quite an entourage waiting for you on that end. (As for the SB ads, somehow they have not been as good as in the distant past.)

The best part is in knowing Green Bay has an NFL team-and LA doesn’t…

First time I’ve caught on to your site.... honestly one of the most amazing things I’ve seen - you definitely picked a great team to be a fan of, and above all a great sport. Too bad the NFC Championship game didn’t work in our favor, but that’s the way it goes. Heal, and look to next year right? I really enjoy your blogs I’ve read so far, and next season, when I am freezing at Lambeau Field, and you are in warm Australia - I hope to send you photos and video. Ironically, it has always been my dream to visit your country. Perhaps someday I too will realize my inspiration and visit your home-land. Till then, thank you for the site and best of luck in the future. Here’s to the Packers in 2008

Today was the first I have heard of your story and I found it to be a very amazing one. The courage it took to go ahead and leave everything behind and move the entire family to a new country. Your wife is also very amazing for having the love and trust to follow you in your dream. I wish you lots of luck with your future plans and hope you are able to do accomplish something positive from your family’s adventure. I do have one question. Did you ever get a chance to meet Brett Favre? Good luck and thanks for letting us share your expierences.
