The Last 2 Weeks

image Yes, the Monday morning updates are back. I know it’s been a little while but there is good reason – just way too many things going on. The biggest difference between here and Green Bay I would have to say is that there wasn’t a great deal of worry in Green Bay. Wake up, live football, hang out with Kelly and the boys, update the website and go to bed. Often the updates came between 11pm and 2am. It was a nice way to finish the night.

These days I’m in either in bed by 10pm or so deep into whatever it is I’m doing that I can’t get out of it.

The other big difference I have learned about being in Green Bay versus being home is that whilst there, football fans and locals alike frequented our website. So too did media outlets, those a little curious and friends of friends keen to see what was going on.

Since being back, friends and family who didn’t visit alot have all of a sudden returned, job and career agents have stopped to check it out and potential employers are also keen to see how their new candidate has spent his last 6 months.

The more people the merrier I say but when you’re out there like I am at the moment you kind of need to be careful with what you say and how you say it. I wanted to be careful that I didn’t say or write anything that somebody may have taken the wrong way. With the job hunt as good as over however (Eihab, I know you’re reading this, don’t make erase these words) I can speak a little more freely. Or as I like to say it, back to the good old Wayne. Assuming all of the paperwork comes through I can tell you all about it next week.

With regards to our immediate feelings – Kelly is better and she thanks all of those who took the time to say hello via email and check up on her. The boys are good and very, very happy it’s Easter time. Ben hasn’t quite figured out that chocolate isn’t a breakfast food yet but he’ll know by the end of the week I’m sure and Luc.....well Luc couldn’t care less what’s happening so long as he’s eating and sleeping on time, getting what he wants and destroying everything he can get his hands on.

I’m happy with the way the job hunt has gone despite it taking longer than expected and I’m stoked with the end result, I really am. The book is becoming more and more the masterpiece with every new page and life is slowly getting back to normal.

Like before, I’m going to update through pictures ‘cause that’s the easiest way to tell the story without writing an entire book about the last 2 weeks. Chronologically our time has gone a little something like this:

image

Friday 29th Feb – As mentioned in my last “photo album” post, we didn’t pick the camera up for a while so there was a whole 4 days between the last of those photos and the first of these ones. This was in the city at my mate’s 30th birthday party and we have the Sydney Opera House behind us to the left. I’d picture him here but I know he’d be a little embarrassed. I’ve spent a little time with him over the last week or two during business hours and let me tell you, he’s top a bloke but what a rubbish worker.

image

Saturday 1st March - Missing Green Bay already Kelly, with her parents, took the boys to City Farm, not far from where we are. They were taught to milk cows and feed the sheep just in case we ever end up in Green Bay again and down on our luck.

image

Sunday 2nd March – This photo was too adorable to leave out. It’s Ben with his new fish. We already had 2 but 3 made a full set. That’s one each for Ben, Luc and their cousin Ella.

image

Friday 7th March – I can’t believe it has been this long between updates. This is me watching replays of Brett’s announcement on ESPN’s Sports Centre – wonderful program that it is. This photo was taken at least 2 days after he made the actual announcement.

image

Sunday 9th March – We attended our cousins 4th birthday party at Australia’s very own Thomas the Tank Engine theme park. It was very cool. This is Kelly and Ben on one of the many trains

image

Sunday 9th March – This totally blew my mind. Whilst driving through the car park to attend the above party I noticed one of the stall holders at the local markets was selling second hand clothing. Even passing by at 20MPH I noticed what I thought looked like the world famous Packer “G” on one of her shirts. Sure enough, after walking back to see, she was selling this Brett Favre shirt for the princely sum of $5. She had no idea who he was, who the Packers were or the fact that he had retired. In fact, to be brutally honest she said she didn’t care. Friends give her clothing they think she could sell at her stall and that’s the story of how she came across it.

She asked if I wanted it and whilst my heart said buy it just for the heck of it, the 4 inch gravy stain running down the front of it told me to save my $5. I suggested, seeing as I wasn’t buying it, that she could probably double her asking price now that he had retired. I don’t think she was amused. Either way, it was un-bloody-believable to think that I’d come across this, in the middle of nowhere, at a car park sale, 2 days after he retired and just 4 weeks after we returned from 6 months in Green Bay. I look at this pic and still can’t believe it.

Friday 14th March – I often head down to the beach to write because it’s where I feel most comfortable. I thought I’d send you all a little message as I walked by it this morning. This was after dropping Ben to pre-school for the day.

image

Friday 14th March – The next few pics are from after pre-school. Ben and I spent the afternoon down at the beach fooling around. It was so great.

image

Friday 14th March – Don’t our faces tell the story?

image

Friday 14th March – “Northies” to the right of Ben is the pub that Kelly and I had dinner at the night that I first had the idea to come to Green Bay. That’s where it all started.

image

Friday 14th March – The big hotel behind Ben is opposite “Northies”. It’s the hotel that we were engaged and married in. Now THAT’S where it all started.

image

Saturday 15th March – Another day over 85F, another day in the backyard pool.

image

Saturday 15th March – Ben is very proud of his vegetable patch. They are growing one at pre-school so we thought it would be good to try it at home aswell. We’ve started with corn, tomatoes, peas, carrots and strawberries

image

Saturday 15th March – Luc, after swimming, wearing a “T is for Trouble” shirt. Don’t we know it!

image

Sunday 16th March - It’s time Luc got a little more airtime in this update don’t you think. Do you like his haircut? See, no more pony tail.

image

Sunday 16th March - If they’re rolling as one now, what will they be like in 15 years?

image

Sunday 16th March - Spending some time by the vegetable garden with poppy

I’m going to stop it there ‘cause that’s 18 pics and one heck of an update. There’s another 12 to add so I’ll save those for next week. They include another trip to the beach, this time all four of us are there, Easter morning and some indoor rock climbing which was great fun.

Hoping you’re all well and that the weather is warming more and more every day. As I write this Google tells me it’s 22F there (I thought it would have been warmer than that to be honest). Take care and please stay in touch.

Boys look terrific with their new haircuts!  Doesn’t take long to get back to “normal”, does it?  Check your site every day.  Keep up the good work.

I loved your note in the sand!  Every place I vacation where there’s sand, I write the location and the date.  It’s a fun way to remember the location and unique too!  Glad to hear life is progressing well, albeit slower than you first expected.

Great update and photos.  I’m looking forward to reading about your next great adventure - your new career.  The boys look very grown up with their new haircuts.  (I love Luc’s oversized Billabongs.)

Good to read your latest update.  I so look forward to them.  You are just so descriptive!! Loved the photo and attitude of the used clothing salesperson.  Actually, there are people in the U.S. that have her same attitude...couldn’t give a rat’s behind about who Favre is.  Unbelievable!!!!!!
Glad to hear Kelly is back to her old self.  Bet Daddy and the boys are glad too!!
Winter just won’t give up the ghost here.  Although in GB, we didn’t get what the southern part of the state got.  But it is all slo-o-owly melting away.
Looking forward to hear about your new job.  Sounds like it will be more than you hoped for, and perhaps all because of your adventure and blog.  Strange how life takes such surprising turns.
