The Signs of Green Bay

Sunday 20th January 2008

imageCounting my lucky stars I can’t help recalling last Sunday when Tony Romo threw the pass that sent the NFC Championship game back to Titletown. If it weren’t for that, we’d, or I at the very least, would be somewhere on our way to Texas right now.

I’ve been very reflective over the last few days. How can you not when a series of events like those that unfolded this week happens with no thanks to anything you could have done to contribute? The fact that we were altogether, as busy as I was, was the most important thing that has come as a result of that loss by the Cowboys. I’m very thankful for that, even if I can’t get Ben of the computer anymore! Thanks nickjr.com.

imageToday we spent some time as a family down at the mall. With the weather being the way it is, -14F this morning (-26C), the only option we had for getting the boys out of the apartment was inside obviously. We played at the little playground, rode the amusement machines and destroyed toy sections as is normally the case. In the afternoon I met Bill Michaels from WTMJ620 at Lambeau Field for a chat and later in the evening I spoke with 3AW in Melbourne about our “crazy American adventure”.

imageWe had a very nice night with Tezza and Robbo trying on clothes for tomorrow’s game that they are kindly lending me as we reminisced a little about our time here and how it has gone so quickly. I still can’t believe we flew into LA in August!

I promised a taste of the signs that decorate the streets of Green Bay in my last post and I have a whole lot of them below. For me this is just so wonderful to see. In Sydney we have so many different professional sporting teams that mass support like you see here doesn’t come very often. It’s just great.

I also wanted to do so because to date, especially the last 2 weeks, we have been contacted from more than 30 of the 50 United States and I know that this site is being hit by more than 60 countries across the world. That’s alot of fans that don’t have the luxury of driving the streets like those of us that live here do.

Also, from firsthand experience, I know that when you live you somewhere you tend to miss what surrounds you as you go about your everyday lives. I’m hoping that those of you in Green Bay that may not have seen them yet get a kick out of them too. These are from Military, Ridge and Oneida Streets only. I’m sure if I drove all over town I could probably triple the number so let’s see what I can see next week when the town is going completely bonkers:

Ya Wayne, I’ve been feelin it for almost 52 years!  Some of my fondest memories are of our Sunday afternoon rituals of big batches of popcorn, with tons of Wisconsin butter, and the weekly Packer game.  I’ve been hooked for as long as I can remember!
I especially like the Favre/Driver 08 sign! Makes sense to me!!
Gearing up for a GIANT win for us Packer loyal and true!  Let’s get ready to rumble!!!!!!

Wayne,

I just have to say, you are probably the luckiest guy around to be able to follow the Pack this year.  I hadn’t heard of you until you were on WTMJ this week.  After I heard your interview I found your bit on YouTube from last weeks game.  It nearly brought tears to my eyes as I was able to see a little bit from the stands.  I’ve only been to Lambeau once back in 1995, but still remember like it was last week.  Appreciate everything you are taking in and I hope to read about your trip to Arizona to watch the Pack in the Super Bowl.

Take care and Go Pack!

C’mon, miss this FG!

Meg, who wanted to record this second for you while sitting here in Milwaukee....

And they missed.

I bet I would have heard you screaming here, had my fiance and I not been shouting the town down, too.

I can not wait to read your impressions of not only this game, but the last few seconds before OT.

Cheers!

Meg

Sorry the Pack didn’t win Wayne.  It was a nail biter down to the end.  It sure was a great season regardless.  There is always next year! smile

What an unfortunate outcome to the season.  I guess the Giants are just that good (although we didn’t really play up to our potential).  It was a pleasure having you guys in Wisconsin and I wish you nothing but great things in the future.  I hope you truly hope you had a memorable time here and I think I speak for all of us when I say you are more than welcome back here anytime!  Have a safe flight back home and just know that we are all going to miss you.

Cheers.

I’ve been listening to you on Monday mornings with Katfish and Kornicky in Ottawa, Canada.  I’ve loved your enthusiasm and great stories.
Hopefully my dream of getting to Australia and doing something bizarro like following rugby will work out.  Thanks for your inspiration.

Tough loss.  Extremely tough loss.
That’s the way the cheddar crumbles -
but - it’s no decent reason we can’t appreciate what’s been a remarkable season for GB by any stretch or standard.  This team far exceeded virtually everybody’s expectations, from fans to haters to media people, and the coming season is now and finally bright with promise again.  (So we’ve gotta wait a few more months, big deal, we’ve waited longer.)
Good luck to yourself and fam’, Wayne, it’s been great fun following the videos and blog entries.  Hopefully you’ll keep the site going down under next year and everybody can continue to enjoy your perspective and commentary.

I am heartbroken that this great season is over. Your one of the people who believed in this team.  You are a true Packer fan.  It was a fantastic season.  All the enjoyment and excitement are over for now.  But who knows what will happen next year?  Perhaps you can come back if only for the Super Bowl.  Have a safe trip home.  We love you here in Wisconsin!

Dear Wayne and family, I hope that all of your dreams came true with the exception of the trip to Arizona.  I really hope that your experience becomes a book or some type of journal.  I hope you will write of your thoughts and ideas of us “Americans” when you have time to reflect on your last six months of living in the “Frozen Tundra”.  What we lack for in heat, we make up for in genuine warmth.  Thank you for taking the time to show us what we often take for granted.  I will miss your posts and wish you and your family only peace and joy.  Happy trails Wayne!

Even though the Packers lost, just know that you saw one of the greatest NFL playoff games ever. That NFC championship game will be talked about for a long, long time.

Thank you, it’s very admirable description it might be very polite for students. For example last year when I had a difficult of time at the end of semester with a eternal flow of academic assignments and drill, I had a inspiring idea to buy it somewhere and than use plagiarism checking. I was so crippled that I did not care for what can commence when my academic work was written by other side person. To my awesome surprise, research paper was worthy the price I paid for it. I was so contented with the quality and now everytime i use this service.

Buildings are not cheap and not everybody is able to buy it. However, personal loans was created to aid different people in such hard situations.
